Our board is elected by the membership to serve our bleeding disorders community, ensuring that the organisation continues to make an impact and improve the lives of people affected by inherited (and acquired) bleeding disorders across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Hemirau has Haemophilia B and lives in Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland with his wife, Erica and their dog Zoey. Hemirau has been involved with HNZ from a young age and has supported national workshops, conferences and camps. Hemirau has been an active member of the Northern region and worked with others to lead subcommittees involving substantial work in the areas of Maori engagement and youth development. He was previously involved in the HNZ’s twinning with the Nepal Haemophilia Society, leading delivery of workshops aimed at developing the capability of youth members of Nepal’s bleeding disorders patient organisation. Hemirau works in the public sector.


Vice-Chair: Catriona Gordon

Catriona lives in Rotorua with her three sons. Her two eldest boys have severe haemophilia A. Catriona has been involved with HNZ as a committee member of the Midland Branch since 2005, and as a Board member since 2008. Catriona represents HNZ on the National Haemophilia Management Group as the patient representative. She was previously involved in HNZ’s twinning programme with Cambodia. Catriona is a qualified lawyer and runs her own law practice in Rotorua.


Treasurer: Karl Archibald

Karl is based in Christchurch and has severe Haemophilia A as well as a secondary condition, Classical Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (cEDS).

Karl has been involved with HNZ from 1996 when he attended his first camp. From 2005 he has been an active member of the Southern Committee and a Board member since 2007. He has mentored and supported HNZ camps and activities and participated in international youth development and mentorship programmes such as SURO and AFFIRM. He has a particular interest in the future of the Haemophilia NZ and how to best support members.

Karl works as an Operations Manager for a construction firm overseeing maintenance of social housing between Christchurch and Palmerston North



Board member: Tineke Maoate

Tineke is based in Northland. She and her husband John both live with a bleeding disorder. They have seven beautiful children who also suffer from platelet disorders to different degrees.

Tineke enjoys working to support other members with bleeding disorders and sharing the challenges. Her family are all members of HNZ and have been privileged to meet other families and individuals living with haemophilia, von Willebrand’s, and platelet disorders.

In her spare time Tineke works as a volunteer fire fighter, board of trustees’ member for her children’s school and her and her husband foster children through Oranga Tamariki. She hopes to educate and support other families learning about their conditions.


Board member: Tracy Nyhan

Tracy is currently based in the Wairarapa and is the mother of three children. Tracy has been actively involved with HNZ for the last 20 years as part of the Central region committee and has a daughter with von Willebrand’s. Tracy has a particular interest in bringing together the bleeding disorder community to provide support to each other through education and sharing of experiences.

Tracy became involved in HNZ when her family needed support to fund medication many years ago and has remained involved to ensure we are always there to support families facing similar challenges. In her spare time Tracy is also a trustee of Work Ready supporting youth into the workforce and currently sits on the Board of two football clubs. Tracy works as a senior manager in the banking sector. 


Board member: Connor McCone

Connor McCone lives in Kirikiriroa Hamilton and is currently pursuing a law degree at Te Piringa Faculty of Law, University of Waikato.

Living with severe haemophilia, Connor serves as the youth delegate on the board. Before embarking on his legal studies, he worked as a welder and fabricator. Connor is actively engaged in the World Federation of Hemophilia’s Youth Twinning Programme in partnership with the Haemophilia Foundation of Pakistan. He looks forward to updating the members of HNZ on what is achieved during this partnership.
